Just what is it that Council is ACTUALLY giving away?- The York Park Stadium and re-named 'University of Tasmania Stadium' for no remuneration for naming rights; and
- The clubrooms etc and function rooms reportedly donated by Gunns – an iconic Launcestonian enterprise in Launceston's history: and
- The second football ground which includes North Launceston Football Clubrooms; and
- The historic grandstand relocated from the main ground etc.; and
- Land, the remnant of the old cycling track minus the part already gifted to UTAS; and
- Elizabeth Gardens along Invermay Road and that is not even a sports facility; and
- That includes the incomplete Tasmanian Workers’ Memorial, [LINK 2] an Australian Monument, largely donated by Unions Tasmania , Gunns and private contributors: and
- Not forgetting palawa/pakana peoples' ownerships and interests this 'place' for a moment given that it was for them as a part of 'ponrabbel' and arguably the most fecund place in lutruwitaTASMANIA before its colonial decimation and its terra nuillius imaginings; and
- WATCH THIS SPACE for more still when members of the Community of Ownership and Interest tell us about what they have invested in 'this place' and what it means.

ReplyDeleteThere are not too many about who were at the footy that day in 1960 but one has told us about being at that match. He later became an Alderman and was pleased to have been reminded of that special day in Launceston.
